Hoffmann’s Winery makes its wines in Balatonederics, at the western edge of the Balaton Highlands, where old Chardonnay and Grüner Veltliner vineyards are joined by newer varieties — Kékfrankos, Syrah, Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc — in shaping the future of the estate. The winery’s style is clean, honest and boldly individual: it works with minimal intervention so that the wines speak first of the terroir, the closeness of Lake Balaton and the gentle work of human hands. In the approach of winemaker Szonja Novák, learning, development and experimentation are all present, while József Hoffmann’s distinctive, slightly rebellious world defines the whole mood of the brand. Hoffmann’s wines are not standard Balaton bottles: they make you think, sometimes surprise you, but always show honestly what wine means to them.
